A Family Affair Turned Passion

The Build: Subtle Power, Striking Presence
Under the hood, Shaneel’s A3 runs a solid 2.0-litre TDI engine, with a Stage 1 remap courtesy of RK Motion. While it’s not the most aggressive performance build out there, that’s by design. “These changes yes it has been done to give the car a little more umph but the end it’s more about the aesthetics for me personally as well as giving it that aggressive look.”
The car is currently pushing 181kW, which, paired with a smooth ride thanks to air suspension, gives it a dynamic edge on the road.
Now when it comes to suspension, this A3 is gliding on a full air setup — FEEL Air struts and bags, paired with P7 management, a 444c compressor, and a 3-gallon seamless tank. It’s not just about how it rides, but how it sits. And sit, it does — clean, low, and always camera-ready (as you can tell!).
And yes, that RS3 exhaust? Pure sound candy.
A Puzzle Worth Building
When asked which part of the build he’s most proud of, Shaneel can’t choose — and that says everything about his approach.
“I enjoyed each upgrade at a time. One upgrade compliments the other. It’s like a puzzle — all the pieces join together to make something beautiful.”
This isn’t just about slapping on parts or chasing specs. For Shaneel, it’s about creating cohesion — building something where every component tells a story, where nothing feels out of place, and everything adds to the whole.

Standing Out in a Sea of A3s
The Audi A3 is a popular platform, which makes standing out a challenge in itself. But that’s where Shaneel thrives.
“The main obstacles was making my car different as the A3 is a very popular and common car, Audi is also a popularly modified car so you needed to build something that stands out but still remains classy and timeless.”
From its bold exterior colour to its subtle-but-strong design language, this A3 speaks loud — without ever having to shout.

A Car That Reflects Its Driver
“I would actually say the colour of the car it’s very much out there the same way of how I articulate myself as well. You compliment your car and your car must compliment you.” Shaneel says.
And that’s the magic of a personal build. It’s not just about horsepower or how low you can go. It’s about resonance — building a car that feels like an extension of yourself.
When Shaneel drives through a show or just down the street, the reactions say it all. “The car gets a lot of attention due to the amount of detail that has been put in, it’s really a crowd pleaser at car shows or even in public areas. It’s the compliments from elderly people as well as small children finding it so fascinating, to me the memory of something small bringing people together in the community.”

The Community Connection
Shaneel’s not just building for himself — he’s plugged into the broader car culture. Attending meets, rolling up at car shows, and supporting others in the scene, he’s a part of a thriving, passionate community that feeds off creativity and collaboration.
He gives major props to local photographers who capture the cars in all their glory. “The way in which the community has contributed should I say is by pictures of my car, posting on social media as well as word of mouth that goes around. Let’s not forget about our photographers who put in a lot of hard work.”
Lessons from the Garage
When asked what advice he’d give to someone just starting their build journey, Shaneel keeps it real:
“Save your money, find a good car, build your own dream car. Remember it’s your money. Build it how you want. If you’d like to be a crowd pleaser, be a DJ. It’s impossible to please everyone.”
And his life lesson? One that transcends car culture: “Just be humble, fear God, and remember that no one is better than anyone else. We are just more fortunate than the next person.”

What’s Next?
Is this the final form of Shaneel’s A3? Not even close.
“Yes, there’s more coming,” he says with a grin. “Stay tuned.”
You’ll likely catch him and the car at local meets and events, including the much-anticipated Shack Off, hosted by The Sceneshack. If his current build is anything to go by, whatever comes next is bound to turn heads.
Until then, one thing is certain: Shaneel Moodley is flipping the script on what it means to modify — with vision, intention, and a whole lot of style.
